Getting here

We want you to enjoy your experience as soon as you leave home, which is why if you’re travelling to the event please take note of all the travel advice.

If you want to park at the race village it is essential you pre-book, spaces will be limited and it will be advanced bookings only. Race Village parking details will be published in due course.

There will also be Park and Ride sites, regular train services, ferries, and easy routes to cycle or walk to the race village.

How do I get to the event?

There are different options for getting to and from the event, as well as getting around in Portsmouth once you’re here.

Portsmouth City Council’s Travel advisors and the America’s Cup World Series Wavemaker volunteers will be on-hand at strategic locations to advise people on the best way to get to the event.

Standard Parking

There are approximately 670 Portsmouth City Council owned off-street parking spaces, available in the city centre, each car park is clearly signed from the highway network.

By Air

The nearest airport is Southampton Airport, a mere 22 miles away from Portsmouth with many international flight routes. Taxis are available from Southampton to Portsmouth and car hire also available. Car journey time from Southampton airport to Portsmouth is usually around 30 minutes. Other international airports include London Heathrow (60 miles/100 kms away) and London Gatwick (also 60 miles/100 kms away), hire car or taxi driving time around 1.5 – 2 hours.

By Sea

The event is right by the water after all! Ferry services operate from France, Spain, the Isle of Wight and Gosport on a regular basis – Ferry operators : Brittany Ferries, Wightlink, Hovertravel, Gosport Ferry

By Rail

There are regular trains from London Waterloo and Victoria Stations, which bring you right into the heart of the waterfront at Portsmouth Harbour Station.

From Portsmouth Harbour Station it’s a short 20-minute walk (approx.)

By Coach

There are regular coaches available from London Victoria Coach Station to Portsmouth – many stopping at The Hard Interchange which is home to a bus depot and taxi rank making travel very easy – visit The National Express website for more information.

By Bus

Bus number 1 or number 23 operate between Portsmouth Harbour Station and the Race Village site. Travel by bus around Portsmouth is also very easy with great services provided by Stagecoach and First Group.

On Foot

Portsmouth is a beautiful waterfront city and is very flat! If you are able to walk to the different event hubs we thoroughly recommend taking in the sea air on a lovely walk to the event! Safe walking routes from Portsmouth Harbour Station will be marked ‘Follow me’ and marshalled by our team of helpful WaveMaker volunteers along the way!

By Bike

Cycling has never been so popular! Why not cycle to the event? There are numerous places around the City to secure bikes, and there will be a designated Cycle park close to the Race Village – details will be provided here in due course.

By Road

We are trying to be as green an event as possible – so if you can use public transport, walk or cycle then please do. If you must drive then follow the Highway signs to the appropriate car parks on your way into the city.
