THE ICONIC America’s Cup trophy arrived in Portsmouth this morning in stunning fashion.

The glittering silver cup – the oldest sporting trophy in the world – was given a Royal Marine escort, arriving in Southsea on a Marine landing craft.
Hundreds lined the seafront as the Auld Mug, in a custom Louis Vuitton case, was carried into the main stage of the Race Village.

Lorraine Nichol, 52, of the Wirral, had a front row seat for the arrival.

She said: ‘I have never seen it before. We thought that it would go through the VIP section.
‘I think it’s fantastic it went through the area for us ordinary people.’
She added: ‘we came last year and it was nothing like this. They have brought it to all the audience.’
Sir Ben Ainslie and his team from Land Rover BAR have now arrived on site with rapturous applause.
The team are aiming to bring the cup back to Britain.
Racing today is set to begin from 1.30pm today.
